Our Mission
We believe simple tech can solve big problems.
People have been moving heavy things from one place to another since the beginning of time.
But people across the world still struggle to move things that are too big for a wheelbarrow and too small for a motor (pickup, tractor, etc).
This gap affects people across backgrounds and borders, whether you're a subsistence farmer in rural Africa, a wine farm in the countryside, or a recycler in the inner city.
So we created Burro
As a 1/4 ton human-powered bakkie, Burro makes it easy to move heavy cargo that is simple and accessible.
Our mission is to create simple tech that contributes to a better world.
We do that by designing and manufacturing high-quality tech that have been developed collaboratively by the people who use them, incorporating their unique understanding of the problem context.
Many contexts, one problem
-
Urban/Rural farming
Farmers in inner cities and rural areas often don't have resources for bakkies, tractors and all the costs associated with their operation. That's where Burros come in, and act like a manual bakkie to help these farmers do their job more efficiently by moving soil, seedlings, water and fresh harvest.
-
Horticulture/Landscaping
Trucks can only go so far in the landscaping/horticulture industry, which has made the wheelbarrow king. But how many jobs are too big for a wheelbarrow? Most of them if we're honest. Burro makes moving plants, plant material and everything else a simple task.
-
Recycling
Urban cities in Africa rely on people to pick recyclables and waste off our streets, aggregating it to larger hubs where trucks can collect. Burro's act as manual vehicles, helping recyclers collect more waste without petrol or complex machinery.
-
Farming
Wine farms, small organic farms, homesteads, horse farms and every kind of farm in between must move all kinds of things, and Burro's make that job easier and frees up machinery for larger tasks.
